I've been sewing again! I finally finished the quilt top for my niece, Staci's, graduation gift. Too bad it wasn't before the graduation. I hope to get it finished before she graduates college! I had to take 3 rows with me to NH, let Staci unwrap them, and then say, "Ok, now give them back to me so I can finish them." I'm sure she thinks she will never see it again! I learned a really neat and easy way to applique those circles. They took no time at all. Let me know if you want me to spill my secret! Now I just have to tie it. I am sad I don't have a machine that could machine quilt it. This one would be super cute machine quilted. Oh well, instead it will be super sentimental with the ties that Aunt Lisa stuck all over it!

I was dying to make something from my neat little sewing book, One Yard Wonders, that I purchased a year ago with a birthday gift card to Barnes and Noble. I just didn't feel like I should make anything else while I was working on Staci's quilt since I am famous for starting projects and not finishing them. I was all focus, focus, focus which is not really one of my talents so pat, pat, pat on my back. Yes, I have been planning/working on that darn quilt for a year. In my defense, I normally only get to sew from 10pm - 1am. So after the top was finished, I took a break from it to make this quick, little treasure bag for Wyatt. It turned out so cute. I can't wait to make more One Yard Wonders! But for now, back to the quilt!

I have finally finished my first quilt (pat myself on back)! Very excited to have it done. It was a very simple, tied quilt for Devyn's teacher at school. She was also Caleb's teacher year before last and we really loved her so we wanted to give her something extra special to remember us. As if she could ever forget these darlings . . .

PS It is all I can do not to make a comment about Post Traumatic Stress Disorder at this point.

Oh, I was one proud mama when we went to the Broken Arrow Public Schools District Art Show this past Tuesday evening. Devyn had a piece of art selected by her art teacher to be in the show and Tuesday was the opening night.

Here she is, precious little thing, with her piece, Man In Motion. The assignment was to show figures moving. I think she did a wonderful job in fulfilling her assignment and showing great creativity and color.

It was a nice family evening. Here are the kids having fun on the bike racks at the recreation center where the event was being held. How cute are they? We missed having dad and Amanda with us due to their work schedules.

Grandma, Grandpa, Aunt Mollie, Aunt Debra and even cousin Savannah came to support the budding artist. Good times . . .

Then something happened . . .

Was it the fame? the celebrity? All those crazy papparazi? I don't know but now it is Saturday, just 4 short days later and her art work has taken a turn for the worse. This is the art she left me in the hall outside her room this evening. It is lacking in creativity but it is "colorful" and edgy. I will have to give her that. But don't let my opinion sway you. Decide for yourself . . .

Devyn would like all her friends and family to know she is alive and well although she won't be available to play or visit for a couple weeks.

LOOK! Our second angel has finally gotten student of the month! I know, I know. Most kids get it once a year, but not our guy! This fourth-grader hasn't received Student of the Month since first grade! We are so proud of him and his accomplishment. This is the product of a lot of hard work for C-man. It was such a special occassion you would think that mom would have at least managed to shower and put some make up on, but no. Sadly, this morning, just like all the others, could not afford that luxury. What's that you say? What is the fourth angel looking at? Why a basketball goal of course!

I had a birthday this week! The big 39. The kids made this delicious birthday cake for me and the whole family (minus one VIP Amanda) went to Olive Garden to celebrate. After all of the scrumptious Italian food and the cake, I started my year long quest to become Fit by 40. The blogging is all about Caleb these days. I will try to add more about my other kids as soon as they do something cute! (Just kidding, no nasty posts please!) Anyway, Caleb's class put on a Penny Arcade and Caleb played the role of Christopher Columbus. I must say he was a dead ringer for the guy. All the kids stood silent behind their desks until someone came up and dropped a penny in their cup. Then they came alive and told about themselves. Here is the video of his performance although you can't hear a word he says because every other class member is doing their presentation as well! I was able to meet Ty Cobb, Mia Hamm, Princess Diana, Pocahontas, Cleopatra, the lady who first created the chocolate chip cookie and Neal Armstrong. They were all so cute.

Caleb, as a Cub Scout, participated in the Memorial Day ceremonial retiring of the colors at the cemetary where his great-grandfather is buried. It was a proud parent moment!

The WORLD'S best Pizza is now in Broken Arrow! We had lots of family fun there this evening.

The kids had fun watching the pizza construction through the glass window. The employees made it very amusing. If the kids pointed up, they would toss the dough up in the air. The threw flour all over the window and drew pictures in it. One guy even made a smiley face out of the dough and stuck it to the window.

The food was totally awesome, as usual too. If anyone wants to invite us to go to Hideaway with them, we would definitely go!

Our Hunter, "set a [RSU] team record with seven 3-pointers and scored a game-high 25 points. She connected on 7-of-8 shots from beyond the 3-point arc. Peterson didn’t waste any time in her display of 3-point proficiency. She knocked down three treys and accounted for all of RSU’s points over the first five minutes of the game. The Hillcats took advantage of the sophomore guard’s shooting clinic by gaining the lead in the first five minutes of play and holding it throughout the remainder of the game." Is it still "in" to say, "She's the Bomb!" Cause if it is . . . She is!

I'm on a self-image high at the moment as my friend, Joni, briefly (heavy emphasis on the briefly, split-second is probably most accurate) thought I was our friend, Sally, when she saw me in the hall at church on Sunday. Many of you know Sally and could understand why I would be so excited. She is gorgeous and THIN! Obviously, my butt was not in view when Joni laid eyes on me or she would have known the difference right away! I'm sure Joni forgot to put her contacts in or something but I'm just living in the moment. Don't be too depressed Sally. Like I said, Joni probably needs her eyes checked.

On that same vein, I am publicly declaring one of my 2009 goals; to lose the weight I have been trying to lose for 14 months now! 18 pounds to be exact. That's right. 9 pounds of pregnancy weight, plus 9 previous pregnancy pounds. That's right. This summer maybe someone will mistake me for Sally in my swim suit! OK, let's be realistic, that is NOT going to happen. I mean I don't have the money for that kind of surgery, but this year's swim suit will definitely be smaller than last year's and more importantly what's hanging out of the swim suit will be smaller! I consider it a service project really. Nobody should have to see that hangin' out stuff.

Silver Dollar City

We decided to have some family fun the day after Thanksgiving so we went to Silver Dollar City on Saturday (ha ha). While we did have fun, the overwhelming feeling was COLD! We were supposed to go back on Sunday but it was snowing so we decided to honor the sabbath day instead! lol

Despite the cold, we were able to enjoy some rides. I actually sustained a non-life threatening injury trying to stuff myself in this ride that my sweet little one wanted me to ride with her.

Caleb and Amanda actually got along for the day. It was like a little slice of heaven!

I really enjoyed all of the Christmas decorations and nostalgia, which is why I drug everyone there in late November!

It really was fun and really cool. They sell these giant cinnamon rolls and "mountain-sized" cookies that were worth the price of admission alone! And the Wildfire was the funnest roller coaster I have ever been on. Great family fun! Hey, they should pay me to do a commercial!

Hunter takes a shot

The Rogers State University Hillcat claw that is. We went to Hunter's basketball game today and it was a close one! I prefer the comfortable 15 point lead we had in the beginning of the second period but the team decided to make us bite our nails off with a 65-64 last minute win! Hunter led the team in points with 14. She had a busy game with some really beautiful plays, getting hit in the nose and four fouls (more than her usual)! All in all, I was, as usual, really impressed. I was also probably the only one distracted by the cute little braid Hunter had in her hair! What can I say, I'm a girl!

My little angel , Devyn, has been going through a very, shall we say, VERBAL stage lately. Usually it has me at the end of my rope by the end of the day, but yesterday was a little bit funny. She was watching Amanda play the Sims last night when Amanda's Sims house got robbed. Amanda exclaimed that she hated robbers. Devyn promptly followed that up with a loud (the only volume she knows), "Yeah, they freak the H@$! out of me!" Well, we laughed a bit and then dad finally coaxed her out of the closet where she was hiding in fear of punishment. He explained to her that it was a naughty word and she should never say it again. When Amanda and Caleb spouted out cuss words as little kids, we always blamed it on Grandpa Taz, and since he isn't in town to defend himself . . . She learned it from Grandpa Taz!!!

He will leave behind 7 beautiful children, 1 amazing wife, his loving parents and brother, and hundreds of heart-broken relatives and friends. I will however, refrain because this is supposed to be a dignified attempt to spread the word. Congratulations to Hunter, my cousin Greg's daughter. She was the high scorer in the Rogers State University women's basketball game today with 19 points. And it goes without saying she is the prettiest one out there. We are so proud of her and will enjoy spending the winter going to her games. Seems like just yesterday I was babysitting her and we were singing, "Skinnamarinkydinky dink, Skinnamarinky doo. I love you!" I'll spare you the rest, but she was the sweetest little girl you've ever seen and now she's all grown up (and just as sweet!)

Heavenly Father Answers Prayers!

It took Amanda exactly 20 days to do ding and scratch the car bumper . . .

But it took her 27 days to do THIS to the car . . .

While turning left out of the school parking lot, she pulled out in front of a truck pulling a trailer. He T-boned her, sent her across the other lane and into a ditch. Although she had to be cut out of the car, she suffered NO damage other than cuts from broken glass, whiplash and sore muscles. Now you may think that two wrecks in one week makes her a bad driver. But in her defense, the first guy she bumped didn't have brake lights and this second accident; well, she had the presence of mind to save her own life. She said that when she saw the truck she sped up in order to try to avoid him. That didn't mean anything to us until we saw the car. The point of impact was inches behind her. Had she not sped up she would have taken all of the impact and been totally crushed. She and her passenger escaped serious injury and the other driver and his passenger were also fine. Needless to say, she got her first ticket and we will understand if you don't want your children riding with her!
After she was born, she was given a blessing that she would always have God's holy angels attending her. I can honestly say they were with her that day. We have nothing but gratitude in our hearts to our Heavenly Father for protecting our precious girl and bringing her home to us; as well as keeping the other people safe. We are also thankful to the Broken Arrow Police and Fire Department Officers who were so kind and efficient, grandma and grandpa who dropped everything to pick up Chris at the airport and take the little ones, the school principals, counselors, coaches and teachers who helped out at the scene and have called and expressed concern, the ER personnel who were so attentive and careful, just to name a few. It has been a bittersweet experience; both traumatic and touching. As a parent, you always dread the call, "Is this Amanda Fabian's mother?" "Yes" . . . But at the same time we have been so touched by each and every person who has been so kind. I think Amanda has learned how much she is loved by so many people.
When we went to collect our personal belongings from the car, I found a small mirror in the car. Despite all of the flying glass, the mirror did not break. I asked Amanda where the mirror came from. She explained that Sister Roberts had given it to her the at church the Wednesday night before. The girls were instructed to look in the mirror and see the good in themselves. I said well what do you see in it today? She said, "LIFE!" Amen, Amen!

Chuckie The Cheerleader

Well, we bundled up and braved the cold to see our little girl cheer at the TU Football Game Sunday night. It wasn't worth it until we saw her out there on the field; defintely a momma moment! She was so excited that she looks like psycho cheerleader in the pictures! Check it out. Oh and by the way, the game was televised on ESPN and although I'm sure they didn't show the girls at halftime, Devyn is convinced she was on TV. I can think of at least 10 different reasons to keep your digital camera out of your children's reach, however, reason number one is quite clear when you look at the picture below. It is no longer safe to fall asleep in my own home. Look what happens to a second chin when you tilt your head! I had no idea it just dangled there. At least my nose is clean! I should wear makeup every day! I have got to have a dermatologist look at that mole. You know, the longer you look at a chin, the funnier it looks . . .

Yes, our Saturdays are once again occupied with a daughter cheering. This time it's Devyn's turn. I let her cheer this year hoping that she wouldn't want to do it anymore once she tried it. The odds are not in my favor of that being the case. She loves it. She is pretty cute though! I have to admit it is pretty exciting to go to the games and watch the little ones play. They are so cute. Go Tigers!

16 "Sweet" Things About Amanda

In honor of Amanda's 16th birthday today, here are 16 sweet things to remember about Amanda:
1. Her nickname is Bandaid thanks to her cousin, Dillon. Of course, Uncle Kevin calls her Mandy Moo Moo.
2. In 4th grade you rarely saw her without a bucket hat on.
3. As a young girl everything HAD to be purple. It's probably the reason she doesn't like purple now!
4. In first grade Amanda played soccer. She got hit with the ball in the first game and spent the rest of the season as far away from the ball as possible. In second grade she didn't play soccer.
5. Most kids watch cartoons on Saturday mornings, in grades K-3, Amanda was an avid infomercial watcher. She wanted to get the Showtime rotisserie really bad. "But mom, all the fat drips right off and all you have to do is 'Set It and Forget It'"
6. When they were 2, Amanda and Dillon won the Trunk or Treat parade contest dressed as "Dos Barneys" So many people had spent hours on elaborate costumes but these two cute toddlers in their store-bought Barney costumes were walking around holding hands and won over the judges. Good thing the prize was only a cup of candy or there might have been a riot.
7. As a youngster she wanted to be an artist and a dog groomer. Now she wants to be a lawyer. Maybe she will represent the interests of dog artists.
8. In a 3rd grade school assignment, she completed the sentence, "Your motto in life is" with "You're a bonehead!" We have Grandpa Taz to thank for that!
9. In 2001, I woke up one morning to get ready for work. I found Amanda dressed for school, rocking baby Devyn in the rocking chair and feeding her a bottle. One of the most precious gifts she has ever given me.
10. In 1st grade, she believed her cousin, Staci, when Staci told her that Barbie's partied in the closet in the middle of the night while she was sleeping. The Barbies were relocated to the living room for a time. She also believed Staci when Staci told her that she used to have an older sister but they lost her in the desert. And we always thought Amanda was the creative one. Ha
11. She single-leggedly kept her squad in first place at cheerleading competition when as the flyer, with the use of only one leg, she straighted her body from laying straight back to standing straight up when her spotter failed to get her upright. It is hard to describe but it was impressive to see!
12. She loves to make muffins, cookies and pancakes. We love to eat them!
13. She has her Aunt Mollie's sense of humor.
14. She loves photography, swimming and track.
15. In 5th grade she loved chess and entered a chess tournament. I was so proud.
16. When she was three she would read books and start every page with "One day there was a billage" A billage is actually a village and, No, I don't know where she got that, but with the hand motions she did with it, it was adorable!

There are many more sweet things about Amanda, but then I don't have to tell you guys that. She is one of the sweetest things to happen to this world. Happy Birthday Amanda.

I feel so out of the blogging world right now because my adorable baby chewed on my cord that downloads pictures from my camera to my computer. Now it doesn't work. Until then, I will have to blog without pictures. At least pictures from my camera. Every thing we do, I just keep thinking . . . Man that would make a great blog post! It is killing me! When I get a new cord, be prepared for all my Winston & Libby wedding pictures, kids first day of school, Devyn cheerleading, Caleb flag football, Amanda track blogs. It is going to be so annoying!

Winston Update

Winston continues to improve daily. He looks so much better. His wounds are almost totally healed. He is going to grow back more hair than we thought, but we think his scars are cool anyway. The scars on his legs look like a web so we call him spiderdog! He really is a superhero to us. How a dog who has been through this much can still have such a capacity to love is a miracle.
His stamina is improving and his weight is up. We can barely see his ribs! He is such a sweetie and loves to play. Libby has more than warmed up to him. She seems to be in love! Don't worry, there is no chance of any Boxer Terriers!

Cub Scout Day Camp

Caleb and I went to cub scout day camp the last week in June. Caleb enjoyed, shooting the B B rifle, archery, fishing and the zip line. I enjoyed the heat, boys complaining they were bored, putting worms on hooks and holding everything the boys didn't want to JK LOL. No really, I did enjoy the zip line. In a surprising twist of events, Caleb was scared to do it and I wasn't! Here is a video of Caleb and I where Caleb finally does it and has a blast! He went on to do it 3 more times.

Meet Winston

Hey everyone, meet our foster dog, Winston. We are taking care of him for Tulsa Boxer Rescue. He is a bit of celebrity. You may have heard about him in the news. Someone abused him by pouring something on his back that burned him. He was hurt terribly, but we are nursing him back to health.

He is a very good dog. He is potty trained, crate trained and knows some commands. To find out more about him visit www.tulsaboxerrescue.net and click on "Winston" at the bottom of the left column. We'll keep you posted on his progress!

Vacation in Woming

Well, I have taken a bit of vacation from blogging! We have only been home from our vacation in Wyoming for 4 weeks! We had a great road trip to Wyoming. The kids were very excited and so good in the car. Even Wyatt did well!

I think Chris and I squabbled more than the kids did! You have to remember that we are a flying family. We can drag four kids through the airport in record time, but lock us in the car (for the first time in 12 years!) and we had a few kinks to work out!

Wyoming was beautiful. We enjoyed every bit of it; the mountains, the water, the animals. It was great!

Of course, you can't beat family. There were 15 people, 2 dogs, 2 cats, and 1 ferret in the house of my cousin, Jenny, and her husband, Chris. They were great about it. If it bothered them, you certainly wouldn't know it. It was crazy though. Dillon broke his ankle and had surgery the day we arrived (baseball, lifeguarding abruptly ended). Aunt Marilyn and Uncle Mike found out they wouldn't be closing on their house and moving in while we were there to help them. Wyatt got sick with his first ear infections so he wasn't very happy and I think he kept a few people up during the night. Amanda graciously slept with her little sister. Aunt Marilyn and Uncle Mike graciously gave up their bed for Chris and I and the baby. It was actually Paul's bedroom that he had already graciously given up for Aunt Marilyn and Uncle Mike. They slept upstairs in Dillon's bed that he, with a broken ankle, gave up to sleep downstairs in Sammi's room. Sammi had already graciously given up her bed for Susan who now graciously gave it up to Dillon and she slept on the floor with Savannah the dog. Paul slept on the floor and helped Dillon in the middle of the night. Caleb, Dustin and Sammi slept somewhere upstairs, at least I think. Did you follow that? What is great is that we are all still speaking to each other!

Noticeable absent from the pictures were the teenagers. We did manage to see Amanda while we were there. We found her very well and having a good time. She is working at the pool and we were able to see her in lifeguarding action during Cosmic Swimming Night. Mama didn't want to embarrass her so I didn't take a picture of her at work! In fact, she managed to miss all of the family outings and stay out of all the pictures. We did not get one picture of the whole family together. Bummer!

Well, more later about our trip. We want to thank Jenny and Chris for the hospitality and putting up with our crew. I want to apologize for calling Chris wierd when I saw him riding his bike in the boonies. That road trip ABC game will really get you in trouble. LOL Thanks to Aunt Marilyn, Uncle Mike and Susan for rearranging for us, babysitting Wyatt and just in general having to deal with us. We loved it and we love our family very much.

Memorial Day

In an effort to set a good example, we took Caleb and Devyn to the cemetary where their great-grandfather is buried on Memorial Day.

They were impressed with the flag displays which were quite impressive. We watched as the boy scouts took down the flags in very moving ceremonies (at least they were for me!)

We found Great-Grandad's grave to be honorably decorated and the kids said they wished they could know him. Me too. He was great!

Here is the official team photo for the sport of noodle ball. I'm not sure how the game is played but it involved a lot of running and hitting each other with the noodle although I think the official rules are to hit the ball with the noodle.

Hmm, are they having a good time together? I think so.

It has been nice getting outside again. I haven't spent much time outside since Wyatt was born. We are getting reacquainted with our neighbors. We are especially grateful for our neighbor, Betty. Last Thursday night at midnight we invited ourselves to her underground storm shelter and were graciously welcomed in! Thanks Betty. We love ya.

Lost Tooth

Well, the long awaited day finally arrived yesterday. Devyn lost her first tooth. We were all convinced that the baby teeth were going to need to be pulled because the adult teeth are already in behind a couple of them. The dentist assured us they would come out on their own in their own time. And he was right! Needless to say, Devyn was so excited at the prospect of becoming rich from the tooth fairy that sleep was a long time coming. She finally went to sleep and awoke to $2 this morning. I wish $2 could make me as excited as she was! I guess I was pretty excited that she was able to buy her own Otis Spunkmeyers after swim lessons today.

Now Caleb lost a tooth today. The tooth fairy will be back again tonight after she digs through the couch pillows and under the car seats for change. Devyn has two more loose teeth. I'm going to encourage her not to wiggle them until after pay day!

I Love You Mom!

I hope everyone had a great Mother's Day. I certainly did. Saturday we went shopping for my flower garden and ate dinner at Ted's (Yum Yum!). Sunday the kids made breakfast and cards and pictures and more pictures. We went to church where the children sang for the moms (happy tears!) and we were given chocolates (more yum yum). In the evening, we had dinner at my mom's (even more yum, yum). It was a great day! I've shared some pictures; one of which indicates just how much I love my mom because I have posted it despite my big, fat arm blob that is showing! I LOVE you, Mom!

Cub Scout Caleb

Caleb has been in cub scouts since he turned 8 in February and he is loving it. He has already earned his Bobcat badge and has earned his first of four beads towards his Wolf badge. Of course, he takes it very seriously and I have been proud of his good behavior at den meetings and pack meetings. I know it will fade over time so I'm just loving it while I've got it! I have been serving as the assistant den leader. I always thought that cub scouts would not be my "cup of tea" but I have really enjoyed it so far. I have learned a lot and I enjoy spending that time with Caleb. It has been very good for us to have something we do together. The pictures are of Caleb receiving his progress bead at pack meeting and Caleb saying the Cub Scout Promise.

I cannot believe that the time has come! Amanda has her learner's permit and is driving. She is doing great around the neighborhood but hasn't ventured much further. She is still trying to get the feel of the pedals and steering wheel. I think she is doing great and more importantly . . . she looks good!

A dog never gets mad at you and they think you are always right. A dog loves you no matter what dumb thing you have done or said. A dog always forgives. Who can't love that?

50 Years Together

We recently celebrated my Aunt Mollie and Uncle Jack's 50th Wedding Anniversary with a big party. Aunt Mollie insisted I make the cake. It didn't turn out too bad but was definitely stressful! I'm glad I don't have to do that very often.
