Circles are Sew Fun!

I've been sewing again! I finally finished the quilt top for my niece, Staci's, graduation gift. Too bad it wasn't before the graduation. I hope to get it finished before she graduates college! I had to take 3 rows with me to NH, let Staci unwrap them, and then say, "Ok, now give them back to me so I can finish them." I'm sure she thinks she will never see it again! I learned a really neat and easy way to applique those circles. They took no time at all. Let me know if you want me to spill my secret! Now I just have to tie it. I am sad I don't have a machine that could machine quilt it. This one would be super cute machine quilted. Oh well, instead it will be super sentimental with the ties that Aunt Lisa stuck all over it!


I was dying to make something from my neat little sewing book, One Yard Wonders, that I purchased a year ago with a birthday gift card to Barnes and Noble. I just didn't feel like I should make anything else while I was working on Staci's quilt since I am famous for starting projects and not finishing them. I was all focus, focus, focus which is not really one of my talents so pat, pat, pat on my back. Yes, I have been planning/working on that darn quilt for a year. In my defense, I normally only get to sew from 10pm - 1am. So after the top was finished, I took a break from it to make this quick, little treasure bag for Wyatt. It turned out so cute. I can't wait to make more One Yard Wonders! But for now, back to the quilt!

We Love Mrs. Havens!

I have finally finished my first quilt (pat myself on back)! Very excited to have it done. It was a very simple, tied quilt for Devyn's teacher at school. She was also Caleb's teacher year before last and we really loved her so we wanted to give her something extra special to remember us. As if she could ever forget these darlings . . .

PS It is all I can do not to make a comment about Post Traumatic Stress Disorder at this point.

Oh, I was one proud mama when we went to the Broken Arrow Public Schools District Art Show this past Tuesday evening. Devyn had a piece of art selected by her art teacher to be in the show and Tuesday was the opening night.

Here she is, precious little thing, with her piece, Man In Motion. The assignment was to show figures moving. I think she did a wonderful job in fulfilling her assignment and showing great creativity and color.

It was a nice family evening. Here are the kids having fun on the bike racks at the recreation center where the event was being held. How cute are they? We missed having dad and Amanda with us due to their work schedules.

Grandma, Grandpa, Aunt Mollie, Aunt Debra and even cousin Savannah came to support the budding artist. Good times . . .


Then something happened . . .



Was it the fame? the celebrity? All those crazy papparazi? I don't know but now it is Saturday, just 4 short days later and her art work has taken a turn for the worse. This is the art she left me in the hall outside her room this evening. It is lacking in creativity but it is "colorful" and edgy. I will have to give her that. But don't let my opinion sway you. Decide for yourself . . .




Devyn would like all her friends and family to know she is alive and well although she won't be available to play or visit for a couple weeks.

Faith Precedes the Miracle!

LOOK! Our second angel has finally gotten student of the month! I know, I know. Most kids get it once a year, but not our guy! This fourth-grader hasn't received Student of the Month since first grade! We are so proud of him and his accomplishment. This is the product of a lot of hard work for C-man. It was such a special occassion you would think that mom would have at least managed to shower and put some make up on, but no. Sadly, this morning, just like all the others, could not afford that luxury. What's that you say? What is the fourth angel looking at? Why a basketball goal of course!

Someone had a Birthday!

I had a birthday this week! The big 39. The kids made this delicious birthday cake for me and the whole family (minus one VIP Amanda) went to Olive Garden to celebrate. After all of the scrumptious Italian food and the cake, I started my year long quest to become Fit by 40. Follow along on my new blog and you can see what I'm doing, make your own comments and track my progress and the progress of others who are following. It will be a great adventure. I hope you'll take it with me! When I turn 40, I'm having a big pool party to celebrate and you are all invited!

Will the Real Christopher Columbus Please Stand Up!

The blogging is all about Caleb these days. I will try to add more about my other kids as soon as they do something cute! (Just kidding, no nasty posts please!) Anyway, Caleb's class put on a Penny Arcade and Caleb played the role of Christopher Columbus. I must say he was a dead ringer for the guy. All the kids stood silent behind their desks until someone came up and dropped a penny in their cup. Then they came alive and told about themselves. Here is the video of his performance although you can't hear a word he says because every other class member is doing their presentation as well! I was able to meet Ty Cobb, Mia Hamm, Princess Diana, Pocahontas, Cleopatra, the lady who first created the chocolate chip cookie and Neal Armstrong. They were all so cute.

To Do My Duty to God and My Country

Caleb, as a Cub Scout, participated in the Memorial Day ceremonial retiring of the colors at the cemetary where his great-grandfather is buried. It was a proud parent moment!

If you watch the video, you may notice the flag is not being folded correctly. This is at the request of the cemetary for storage purposes.

Foto Friday

The WORLD'S best Pizza is now in Broken Arrow! We had lots of family fun there this evening.

The kids had fun watching the pizza construction through the glass window. The employees made it very amusing. If the kids pointed up, they would toss the dough up in the air. The threw flour all over the window and drew pictures in it. One guy even made a smiley face out of the dough and stuck it to the window.

The food was totally awesome, as usual too. If anyone wants to invite us to go to Hideaway with them, we would definitely go!
